Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu

Welcome To Lake Kivu

One of Africa’s Great Lakes, Lake Kivu, lies on the border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is a spectacular sight to behold. Approximately 90 km (56 miles) long and 50 km (31 miles) at its widest, this vast stretch of fresh water is a beautiful glistening oasis, perfect for budding photographers to capture the magnificent landscape that surrounds it. Don’t forget to pack your swimming gear as you can swim in crystalline waters or explore deserted islands on a pirogue. Stunning Lake Kivu is the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is 89km long and 48km wide, at its deepest point, it is 480m deep. Dotted with small uninhabited islands, it really is an idyllic scene.
