Simien Mountains National Park is home to rare and beautiful mammals and birds, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. Over 863 species of birds have been registered in Ethiopia, representing approximately 9.5 percent of the world’s birds and 39 percent of the birds in Africa. Eighteen of these birds are endemic to Ethiopia, while a further 14 are endemic to Ethiopia and neighboring Eritrea.

The closest airport to the Simien Mountains National Park is in the city of Gondar. After reaching Gondar you can easily rent a vehicle or take a bus to Debark, which the starting point for the national park. You can likewise reach Debark, from Addis Ababa, Axum, or Lalibela.
